boiling rice
- Take 2 cups rice and Wash the same in running water ( 2 cups is sufficient for 4 servings)
- Put 4-5 cups water in the cooker if you are using another vessel to cook rice
- Take a cooking vessel and add the washed rice to it
- Add 2 cups water to 1 cup rice ( This will be sufficient for 4 servings)
- Close the lid of the cooker and put the whistle
- After 4 whistles, switch off
- After the cooker cools off, which may take 15 minutes, the lid of the cooker may be opened
Tomato Rasam
Ingredients required :
- Tomatoes- 2 - Use blender and make it into pulp.
- 2 table spoon (TBSP) of tamarind paste
- Rasam powder- 3 level TSP ( Tea spoon)
- Turmeric powder - Pinch
- LG hing- a pinch
- Salt- 1 tsp level
- 5 TBSP Tuar Dal - Pressure Cook - ( Add 1 cup water, a bit of turmeric and pressure cook).
Method
- Put the tomato pulp into the vessel first and switch on the gas / induction stove. Add 1 cup water and keep the stove in sim mode.
- Now put all the above ingredients - Tamarind paster, rasam powder, turmeric, Hing, Salt ( Except cooked tuar dal) In the cooking vessel which is already having the tomato pulp
- let the above boil till the raw smell of tarmarind disappears... This may take 15 minutes. However, timing may vary if cooked on induction stove.
- After 5 minutes, add the cooked Dal and top up with 2 cups water as needed.
- Switch off the gas when the foam collects on top which may take 10 minutes more.
- You can add seasoning of mustard on top with some refined oil if required.
Yellow dal
Ingredients required :
- 1 Cup moong dal ( Split)
- 1 tomato (Finely chopped) / made into a pulp with blnder
- 1 onion (Finely Chopped)
- Coriander
- 3 green chillies
- 1 TSP jeera /cummin
- 1 TBSP Ginger garlic paste
- 1/2 TSP turmeric powder
- 1 TSP Chilly powder
Method
- Take 1 cup split moong dal
- wash it
- Add 2 1/2 cups water and keep it aside for 10 mts
- Take a pressure cooker
- Transfer the moon dal with the water to the cooker
- Add 1/4 TSP turmeric powder
- Pressure cook
- Take out the cooked moong dal and mash it
- Take a kadai, add 3 TBSP refined oil
- Once the oil is hot, add 1 TSP mustard, 1 TSP Jeera
- Add the green chillies, onions for 5 mts and saute
- Add the tomato and saute for 5 mts
- Add 1 TSP chilly powder and mix
- Add the ginger garlic paste and saute
- Now, add the cooked moong dal, add some water to dilute it
- Mix for about 10 Mts
- Switch off the gas and allow it to cool
- Garnish with fried onions, dry red chillies, jeera, coriander and serve
