  • 6 Aloo (Potato)
  • 1 TSP - Urad dal
  • 1/2 TSP - Mustard
  • 3-4 TBSP - Refined oil
  • 2 TSP - Chilly powder
  • 1 -2 TSP - Salt

  • Chop the potato into fine pieces
  • Add the oil to a non stick vessel
  • After 4-5 minutes, once the oil is hot, add the mustard and urad dal
  • Add the Potato and mix well
  • Add 2 TSP Chilly powder
  • Add 2 TSP Salt 
  • Mix well
  • Keep it in low flame for about 30-45 Mts and keep stirring every 5 mts 
  • Add Roasted chana powder 1 TSP ( Pottu kadalai Mavu) at the end which will make the potato really crisp

  • 6 Potato
  • 3 onions
  • 4 TBSP Refined oil
  • 1 TSP Mustard seeds
  • 1 TSP Urad dal
  • bit of Hing
  • 3 Green chillies
  • 4-5 cashewnuts - broken
  • 4-5 curry leaves
  • 1 cup green peas
  • 1 TSP lemon juice
  • 1/2 TSP turmeric powder
  • Coriander leaves

  • Wash and cut potatoes into half and pressure cook  for 3 whistles. (May also boil after removing the peel)
  • After it cools, peel the skin and mash it well. Not to a fine paste) Keep it aside. 
  •  Heat the oil in a kadhai and add the mustard seeds. 
  •  When the seeds crackle, add the urad dal, asafoetida and sauté on a medium flame for 30 seconds. Also add cashewnuts at this stage 
  •  Add the green chillies, curry leaves , onions and green peas and sauté on a medium flame for 2 to 3 minutes, while stirring occasionally. 
  •  Add the potatoes, salt, turmeric powder, lemon juice and sugar, mix well and cook on a medium flame for 2 minutes, while stirring occasionally. 
  •  Add the coriander, mix well and cook on a medium flame for 1 minute. 
  • Cook for few minutes (around 5-6 mins) until   everything gets blended well. Switch off the flame

  • 2 Cups Tuar dal
  • 3-4 Dry red chillies (Spicy)


  • Vegetables - Beans / Cabbage / Raw banana

  • For the Usili
  • Soak the Tuar dal with red chillies for about 1 hour in water
  • In the mixer, just for 5-10 secs grind.  It should be very coarse and not made into a pulp
  • Take a kadai, add some oil and put the usili into that
  • Mix for 10 - 15 minutes in low flame
  • Pressure cook the vegetable
  • Add the vegetables to the usuli and mix for 5-10 minutes

  • 2 dry red chillies
  • 1 TSP urad dal
  • 1 TSP Mutard
  • 1 TBSP - refined oil
  • 1/4 TSP Hing
  • 3/4 TBSP - Salt

  • Chop the vegetables into small pieces
  • Take a small cooker
  • Add 1 TBSP refined oil
  • Now, put the red chillies, TSP mustard and 1 TSP urad dal and allow it to splutter
  • Add 1/4 TSP Hing
  • mix the above
  • Add 1 cup water
  • Add 3/4 TBSP Salt
  • Close the lid and after 3 whistles, switch off the gas
